With the impasse concerning the Archery Association of India (AAI) unlikely to be solved before the deadline of July 31, World Archery could suspend the archers from future international competitions. The Indian archers might not get to participate in the qualifying event of Asian Championships.

After the national archery body saw two separate fighting factions conducting separate elections, the Supreme court had to dismiss the plea of one of them that has only postpone the judgment. This would mean that the World Archery would need to take action if the deadlock would remain even after has July 31.

And they would be suspending the Indian body disallowing Indian archers to take part in international competitions, which could see them missing out of some crucial Tokyo qualifying events. And with the Indian contingent doing really well with men’s recurve team bagging an Olympic quota at the World Championships last month, India’s chances looked bright.

“The Archery Association of India will certainly be suspended and this will hamper our Tokyo Olympics preparations. India will not be allowed to compete in the Asian Championships — an Olympic qualification event — at Bangkok in November,” said former government observer for archery Sanjeeva Singh expressed dismay over the developments.

The two factions were lead by Arjun Munda, the Union minister for Tribal Affairs, and retired IAS officer BVP Rao. Both if them had conducted elections on June 9 in Delhi and Chandigarh respectively, although the sports ministry didn’t send observers to any of them.

However, the Indian Olympic Association had sent Onkar Singh, the secretary-general of Cycling Federation of India, to in Delhi and subsequently, Sachdeva was recognized. Apart from that, World Archery had also sent its vice-president, Kazi Uddin Ahmed Chapol as a mediator. But, little progress has been made since then.
