Malik defeated reigning world champion Olli 4-1 on Tuesday in the semi-finals as the Indian wrestler was assured a silver medal for advancing into the final. It would serve Malik as a huge boost, who has been severely inconsistent following her Olympics feat back in 2016 in the 58 kg category.
While Malik had won a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships prior to the Rio Olympics, she could only one a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games since then. She went medalless at the 2018 Asian Games and even lost in the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Championships in the 62 kg category.
Though a silver medal is guaranteed, the 26-year-old wrestler would be hoping to go all the way in the tournament for it is awarding United World Wrestling (UWW) Ranking Series points, which would help the in determining the top four seeds at the 2019 World Championships, which is to be held in Kazakhstan.
