After a comfortable victory over Daria Kastkina and Alexandra Panova in the opening round, Mirza and Hingis continued their impressive run in the tournament by producing a dominant performance in the second round. They started their campaign strongly and dominated the big points, before breaking the Japanese pair in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead in the first set. Hibino and Hozumi showed spirit and tried to match the top seeds shot for shot, but the difference of class between the pairs was visible throughout the match as Mirza and Hingis broke the Japanese pair once again in the first set to take it 6-2.
If the first set was one-sided, then the second set was the epitome of an emphatic victory. The Indo-Swiss pair outclassed Hibino and Hozumi and broke them thrice to finish off the match serving the Japanese pair a bagel, and earn a 6-2, 6-0 victory in less than an hour.
Mirza and Hingis will now face unseeded pair of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková in the pre-quarter-final.
