2021 Tokyo Olympics | Good coordination among players the reason for recent success, asserts Gurinder Singh

The Indian men’s hockey team has been phenomenal in the past few months, having returned unbeaten from their Europe tour in March and suffering just a single loss in Argentina. It has sparked hopes of India ending its 41-year old medal drought at the Olympics, when the 2021 Tokyo edition gets underway on July 23.

Indian defender Gurinder Singh has admitted that the coordination among the players on the field is one of the main reasons for the recent success. 

"One of the things that we have always focused on is good coordination on the field. Skill is important, but if there is no coordination between players then the skill of players will not be utilized properly," said Gurinder Singh, as stated in a Hockey India release.

"We coordinated very well during our tours of Europe and Argentina. We didn't hesitate while passing the ball as the players were moving well on the pitch,” he added.

However, Gurinder feels that there’s still room for improvement and the team is working on fine-tuning a few aspects before taking the flight to the Japanese capital. The Indian men’s hockey team will begin their 2021 Tokyo Olympics campaign against New Zealand on July 24.

"All of us are confident about our games ahead of the Olympics. However, there is always room for improvement and therefore we are fine-tuning a few aspects of our games at the moment,” stated the Tokyo-bound player.
