Manchester United are targeting Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to solve their goal-scoring issues, with the Frenchman netting 12 league goals this season, more than Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined. Palace may accept a £40 million offer, but United, facing PSR concerns, could include Altay Bayindir, Joshua Zirkzee, or Harry Maguire in a swap deal. Maguire, now in his mid-30s, has one year left on his contract, while Zirkzee move hasn’t worked out as planned.

One of the key priorities for Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window is securing a reliable striker, given their struggles in front of goal this season. With only five Premier League teams scoring fewer goals than United, they are exploring options to bolster their attacking line. Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta has emerged as a target, having scored 12 league goals this season — more than double the combined total of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Crystal Palace reportedly values Mateta at £40 million, but with financial constraints due to Premier League spending rules, United may look to include players in a swap deal. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, wo could be surplus to requirements if a new shot-stopper arrives, is one option. Striker Joshua Zirkzee, signed for £36 million in 2024, is another, as his move to Old Trafford has not yielded the expected results. Additionally, veteran defender Harry Maguire, who will be in his mid-30s next season and has just a year left on his contract, could be offered to Palace.

With INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe overseeing United’s transfer strategy, they may need creative solutions to strengthen the squad while managing financial restrictions.
