Igor Stimac calls for organized and defensive football

After a dry stint following India’s disappointing ending in their AFC Asian Cup campaign, Sunil Chhetri and Co. would be having a significant and congested period of game time with the 2023 AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Asian Cup qualifiers as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers coming up later this year.

Stimac, who is yet to take the full charge of the side, would have a tremendous task ahead of him with the crucial tournaments coming up and while King’s Cup wouldn’t be used to gauge the Croatian’s efficacy, the remaining tournaments would definitely be.

The manager, however, seemed confident despite not be able to assess his players yet and revealed a sketch of what his demands would be from his players.

“I insist on organised football, quick passing, movement and strong, disciplined defensive work. To be a part of such a team, each national team candidate needs to be at his best condition, mentally and physically,” the Croatian explained, reported Goal.

“We are going to use upcoming work and games to introduce my way of work, principles inside the games for each position and try to find the most effective players for us,” added Stimac.

With a bunch of fresh players coming to the squad after Constantine’s era, India would see a lot of young players coming up ahead of their important Asian campaigns. However, young age is clearly something Stimac seemed worried about.

“In football there’s no young or old, there is only good or not good enough,” he concluded.
