Manchester United and David De Gea have been at an impasse over the last few months with the Red Devils struggling to get their superstar to sign a new deal. At the moment, the 28-year-old has just one year left in his current contract, with United desperately trying to get the Spaniard to sign a brand new deal.
However, wage issues have caused a rift within the team, with earlier reports from the Independent revealing that De Gea wanted somewhere close to what Alexis Sanchez is earning. That saw United make a brand new offer to the Spanish number one and his agents in June, with ESPN reporting that the offered wages are in excess of £350,000-a-week.
While the offer is on the table and hasn't been touched yet, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that the shot-stopper is on the brink of signing the new deal. “Hopefully we can agree with David as I've said a few times. That'll be up to David and the club to announce when that happens, if and when," Solskjaer said.
It brings close to a long and arduous 18 months of talks, removing the risk that the Red Devils could lose one of the best goalkeepers in the world for nothing next summer.
