David Alaba broke into the Bayern Munich first team after impressing in the youth ranks of the club. After his debut in 2010, the Austrian became a regular starter for the club at left-back. However, with the arrival of French full-back Lucas Hernandez this summer, it is clear that Alaba’s game time will be reduced, despite the fact that the Austrian can play as a midfielder.
While speaking with Austria Press Agency, Alaba went on to say “My focus is on Bayern. I don’t know what will happen next year, but I have always stressed that I am a player looking for new challenges — whether that will be at Bayern or elsewhere, I cannot say.”
The former Hoffenheim full-back has previously stated that he has been a lifelong fan of Arsenal and would only be interested in moving to Spain or England if he were to leave Munich. The 27-year-old has also been linked to Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past but neither side have shown any interest in making a move this summer.
TEAMtalk says that Alaba was offered in a deal for Manchester City star Leroy Sane which included a transfer fee as well, but the Premier League champions were not interested in a move for the Austrian. Alaba’s contract at the Allianz Arena is about to end, and the club will have to lose him as a free agent if they don’t decide soon.
