NEUFC coach - Eelco Schattorie seemed to be happy with last night’s result of 2-2 which saw his team and Sergio Lobera’s FC Goa share one point each in a thrilling game of football. Schattorie also came to the defence of his goalkeeper - TP Rehnesh but added that he needs more stability at the back.

NorthEast United FC got off to a decent start to their 2018 campaign with a promising 2-2 draw against a strong FC Goa team at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Monday. A brace from Ferran Corominas (14th, 38th)  for the visitors and goals from Federico Gallego (8th) and Bartholomew Ogbeche (53rd) for the home team ensured that both teams would end the night with a point each in their opening game of the season.

Newly appointed NEUFC coach, Eelco Schattorie, who had promised to exploit the weaknesses of Sergio Lobera’s FC Goa side was pretty content with his team’s display despite the off slip-up here and there.

“If we look at our pre-season, we needed two more weeks to get fit. We have not been really tested in terms of our fitness. So, the result that we got was a good one. Goa is with the same coach and almost the same players. So, their strategy and way of playing are implemented and for us, we are still playing. We got a bit of a lucky goal in the first half. In the second, we did pretty well except for the last 10-12 minutes. But overall, I am happy with the 2-2,” Schattorie said in the post-match press conference.

Schattorie came to the defence of his goalkeeper - TP Rehenesh who was responsible for the first goal his side conceded. The NorthEast custodian failed to collect a floated cross from Jackichand Singh and Spanish sharpshooter Ferran Corominas was on hand to bundle the ball into the net.

“I think TP made some good saves throughout the game. I think like any goalkeeper in India, he lacks certain stability. He can sometimes take lesser risks but overall, I am happy that he is in our team,” Schattorie added.
