AFC gives recognition to Indian Super League

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have accepted the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) proposal to recognise the Indian Super League as an official competition. This will result in the ISL winner getting an AFC Cup qualifying slot to participate in the continental competition.

Indian football will have two football leagues from 2017-18 season after the AFC has accepted the Indian Super League, the franchise-based competition, as an official league in the country.

AIFF got the letter of permission from AFC’s headquarters, on Wednesday, in Kuala Lumpur with the signature of its general secretary Dato Windsor John, as confirmed by HT. The letter mentioned that it is a temporary solution without specifying a confirm date and they also informed FIFA about this development. The winners of the 10-team ISL will get an AFC Cup qualifying slot which was given to the winners of the Federation Cup till 2016-17.

Finishing as the runners-up last year, Bengaluru FC have made the Zonal semi-finals this time and will play North Korea’s 4.25 SC (April 25 Sports Club) home and away in August and September respectively.
