The race to the T20 World Cup semi-final stages gets more heated after the clash between England and Pakistan. Pakistan batted first and they were able to do well in this game, as they scored 164 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. But England did not have a good start to the chase, as the top order failed completely.

At one point, the team even stood at the score of 58/4, but Harry Brook remained firm at the crease. He smashed a ton in 50 balls in the 166-run chase, which powered England to the win. Winning two in two, stages of the tournament for the fifth consecutive time.

However, there are still 3 spots remaining and 7 teams fighting for the same. Here's the qualification scenario for each team in the semi-final stages.

India

India did not have a good start to the Super Eight stages, as they suffered a brutal loss to South Africa by 76 runs. While their net run rate has been affected, the team still remains in contention for the semi-final stages. India will be playing its next two games against Zimbabwe and West Indies.

In order to make it to the next stage of the tournament, India will have to win both of its games against West Indies and Zimbabwe. It is not just the wins which could help them to get over the line, the team would require wins by huge margins.

West Indies

West Indies have received a strong start to the Super Eight stages with the clash against Zimbabwe. Defeating them by a huge margin of 107 runs, the team stands at the top of the table with its NRR above 5. So, the qualification scenario remains much easier for them as compared to the other teams.

West Indies will just have to win one more game which will make them qualify to the next stage. The team is having its next game against South Africa, which will be crucial to determine whether they will qualify early, or they will have to wait for the clash against India on 1 March.

South Africa

South Africa also stands firm when it comes to their chances to reach the semi-final stages. The team started their Super Eight with a victory against India by 76 runs, which has already boosted their confidence to a great extent. While they have been dethroned by the West Indies from the top, they still have a strong chance of qualification.

South Africa stands just one game away from being qualified to the semi-finals of the tournament. The team has two games left, which are against the West Indies and Zimbabwe. With the clash against West Indies, it will be determined which one of these two teams gets their early spot in the semi-finals.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has very slim chances to reach the next stage of the T20 World Cup. The team suffered a major loss against the West Indies in their very first game. Their run rate has dropped to a great extent, with the team still having to play against the big teams ahead.

Zimbabwe has its clashes against India and South Africa still left. For them to reach the next stage, they would have to win the next two games by massive margins which could help them to get 4 points and even maintain a positive net run rate if the equation gets two teams at the same points.

Pakistan

The equation for Pakistan has also dropped with their recent loss against England. Previously, their first clash in the Super Eight stages resulted in a wash out. And now they have lost the game against England, putting it all in line for the clash against Sri Lanka.

If Pakistan is able to win the game against Sri Lanka, it would strengthen its chances to reach the next stage. At the same time, they should also have a higher net run rate than New Zealand if New Zealand manages to win one of its remaining two games.

New Zealand

The only reason why England's semi-final clash has not been confirmed is the Kiwis. They have played just one game which was also a washout. With two games left, they still have a strong chance in Group 2 to reach the semi-final stages, and even top the table.

For this to happen, they must win both of the remaining two games, which would guarantee them a qualification to the next stage. One of these games is against England, which could be a decider, to know whether New Zealand can make it to the next stage or not. If they are able to secure just one win, the team must maintain a better NRR than Pakistan to reach the next stage.

Sri Lanka

The co-hosts of the tournament, Sri Lanka, also have a low chance of reaching the next stage. They have played just one game against England and lost it by a huge margin. After the game between England and Pakistan, Sri Lanka is now at the last spot in the standings with its NRR being at -2.550.

If they are willing to reach the next stage, it is necessary for them to win both of the remaining two games. These games are against New Zealand and Pakistan, the teams that have a higher chance than Sri Lanka to reach the next stage. If Sri Lanka beats both of them, it would result in an easy qualification for the team.
