Mumbai Indians have not been able to do well in the IPL 2026 season. With a loss against SRH, the team still stands with 2 wins in 8 games. At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah has struggled to take wickets for the team in this season, which might be one of the key reasons behind its downfall.

Mumbai Indians, the five time IPL champions, have not even secured five wins in this season. Even after playing 8 games, Mumbai Indians find themselves at the second last position in the standings. The team played its previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where they posted a massive total of 243 runs.

It was expected to be defended with ease, since Mumbai Indians had players like Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. But Bumrah went on to concede 50 runs in his spell and didn't even take a single wicket. Mumbai Indians also went on to lose this game, giving another high chase victory to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2026:

  • Innings: 8
  • Overs: 30.0
  • Wickets: 2
  • Average: 132.00
  • Economy: 8.80

Note: The stats are till 29 April, 2026.

The fall in Mumbai's performances and the performances of Jasprit Bumrah have come down at the same time. Fans are even arguing that Jasprit Bumrah’s form has been a real reason why Mumbai Indians are struggling to secure wins in this season.

Our Take

While Bumrah's form does play a role for the team, it is not the only reason why Mumbai Indians are losing games. He did well for the Indian team a few months back in the T20 World Cup, but right now in the IPL, he struggles to do well for Mumbai Indians. Still, the team has various other challenges to look forward to, which includes a stable opening pair, middle order line-up, and the form of bowlers other than Jasprit Bumrah.
