Match awareness is one such underrated trait that a few people talk about. On a big match like the final of Champions Trophy, such characteristics become crucial in the course of the match, and Kuldeep Yadav was on the receiving end of the captain’s rebuke for his lacklustre effort in the field.

Batting first in the summit clash against India, New Zealand got off to a blistering start, courtesy of a 57-run opening partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Will Young. However, the introduction of spin brought India back in the contest, and the Black Caps fell the heat during the second powerplay. Despite the exerted pressure, India’s fielding wasn’t up to the mark, and Kuldeep Yadav was rebuked for one of those similar instances.

After 172 runs on the board in 40 overs, Kuldeep bowled a back of a length delivery outside the stumps that Michael Bracewell pushed off the back foot towards backward point and unfurled for a single. In the process, he was on the verge of colliding with his partner before diverting from their original trajectory. This was a good chance for Ravindra Jadeja, the fielder at backward point to make a direct hit, but the shy wasn’t quite perfect.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep didn’t back up near the bowler’s end, missing out on a potential runout opportunity. His unmindfulness drew rebuke from the Indian captain as Rohit Sharma was caught on stump mic saying,”ball to pakadle aake, stump pe kyu nhi aata he tu". Rohit and stump mic is an everlasting bonding, and it sparked a Twitterverse discourse.
