Punjab Kings had to make some shocking decisions during the IPL retention. Although the team was able to retain their key players, there was one whom they were not able to. But that player has now announced his availability for the next season, which makes them regret.
Imagine releasing a player from your team, as they were thought to be unavailable for the next season. But as soon as the auction comes to an end, you get to know they will be available for more than expected games in the next season. This has recently happened with Punjab Kings in the IPL auction, which makes them regret the release.
The team went on to release five players from its line-up before entering the auction. And these players included the top names of Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell. But now, the team management is regretting the decision they made to release from their squad for the next season.
Josh Inglis came out to be a phenomenal player for Punjab Kings in the last season. Coming in the middle order, he remained a reliable batsman for the team to score runs at a rapid pace. His performances almost made it sure that he would be retained by the team for the upcoming IPL edition.
But there was just one uncertainty, which was related to his availability. The next IPL edition will be clashing with Josh Inglis’ wedding, for which, it was revealed that in the next season. So, getting a player in crores for just four games won't have been worth the money for Punjab Kings, or any other team in the IPL.
The team was informed about this by Josh Inglis himself. And just 45 minutes before the retention window would close, that they will be releasing Josh Inglis from the team. So, Punjab Kings were left with no other options rather than releasing Josh and looking for some other options.
After being released from the team,, just like any other released IPL player. And now, each team knew that he would be available for just a few games in the upcoming edition. Despite noting this fact, Lucknow Super Giants decided to go for the Australian wicket-keeper.
The . They had spent a good amount of their remaining purse to ensure Inglis remained in their line-up. But even after buying him, it was expected not to be a good decision to spend this much on the Australian wicket-keeper.
And now, a latest development has taken place with the availability of Josh Inglis. He is now expected to be available for more games than it was initially expected. This comes in the favour of Lucknow Super Giants, but Punjab Kings are unhappy with the same.
Punjab Kings had a successful campaign in the IPL 2025 edition. While several fans say that their new skipper Shreyas Iyer was the primary reason behind the same, others also know the silent role played by Josh Inglis. In the last season, he played an impressive total of 11 games for Punjab Kings in the tournament, but made them all count.
Josh Inglis in IPL 2025:
His best performance came in the team's last group stage match against the five time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians. Mumbai ended up scoring 184 runs in their innings, and now it was time for Punjab Kings to chase the same. Although Prabhsimran Singh lost his wicket early, Josh Inglis came at number three and partnered with Priyansh Arya. He went on to score 73 runs off 42 balls, and even won the POTM award.
Later in the Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians yet again, Josh Inglis gave his best. During the chase, he was able to score 38 runs off 21 balls for the team, which also opened the way for Shreyas Iyer to complete the chase. Maintaining an impressive strike rate, he was able to play a silent role for Punjab Kings in the same.
Even in the finals against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, . Despite the main batters failing to score well, Inglis scored 39 runs to ensure that the team remained in the chase. But after his wicket fell down, the match seemed to have slipped away from the team's hands.
