Jitesh Sharma produced a flash of brilliance to dismiss the in-form Quinton de Kock in the second T20I in New Chandigarh on Thursday. The Indian wicketkeeper showed quick reflexes to first stop the ball with his left hand before catching the South African opener short of his crease.

‌Quinton de Kock gave South Africa an excellent start in the second ODI in New Chandigarh after India put them in at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The Proteas opener smashed four sixes and a four to power them to 53/1 at the end of the powerplay.

The wicketkeeper-batter continued to produce the big shots on a true cricket surface, completing his fifty in just 26 balls in the ninth over. He was smashing just about every bowler who came onto bowl, getting to 90 in 45 balls as the visitors were strongly placed at 156/2 with five overs to play.

Just as the southpaw was looking set for his second T20I century, Jitesh Sharma pulled off a special effort to end his stay in the middle. The batter was looking to tap a short of the length delivery outside off stump in the first ball of Varun Chakravarthy’s final over to the point region for a single. But he ended up underedging it towards the wicketkeeper’s direction and almost started running.

An alert Jitesh did well to first stop the bouncing ball with his left hand before collecting it with his other hand and whipping the bails off in a flash in one continuous motion. The batter had backed out far too much and failed desperately in his attempt to make his ground.

Twitter was in awe of Jitesh’s presence of mind and lightning speed as an unlucky De Kock walked off without getting to a deserved century.
