AUS vs ENG | Twitter in disbelief after umpire undergoes concurrent brainfades to end up with wrong decisions

Umpires often try to compensate earlier mistakes with better calls but Shafuddoula went beyond that during the second Ashes Test in Brisbane. The on-field umpire, after an ordinary decision, followed it up with another unbelievable error with Australian captain Steve Smith reviewing immediately.

‌After starting the third day at 378/6, Australia extended their advantage over England in the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Alex Carey (63) and Mitchell Starc (77) scored valuable half-centuries to frustrate England further before ending their innings at 511.

That meant England trailed by 177 runs as they walked out to bat again towards the fag end of the second session. Though they started aggressively to score 45 runs in the first six overs before the break, they collapsed dramatically to be placed at 121/4 in just the 27th over.

Scott Boland was in between a hostile spell doing all sorts of things with the pink cherry as England skipper Ben Stokes joined Harry Brook in the middle. He produced a beauty that pitched on a short of a length outside off stump before whizzing past the outside edge of the batter.

But there was a significant noise as the ball went through to the keeper with Sharfuddoula hesitantly raising his finger. But a confident Brook immediately reviewed with replays showing a daylight between the bat and the ball. The bat clipped the pad right after missing the ball creating a wave in the snickometer as the TV umpire asked his onfield partner to change the decision.

In the next ball, Brook clearly nicked off a similar length with the umpire overcompensating for his earlier error to rule in the negative. This time Smith instantly reviewed only to see a major spike with the TV umpire repeating his instructions to the on-field umpire to change his decision.

Twitter was in splits with even Sharfuddoula having issues to spot the pink ball in the final session of the day.
