Arriving on the back of a 320-run triumph in the first Test, Sri Lanka won the coin-flip and elected to bat first. The top-order gave brilliant starts with Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne adding 88 runs in the first session, followed by a 104-run second wicket stand between the former captain and Kusal Mendis. Amidst the massive partnership, Bangladesh in quest of wickets opted for a bizarre review that gained a lot of attention.
On the fifth ball of the 44th over, Taijul Islam bowled a fuller delivery at the stumps that Kusal Mendis shimmied down and blocked it to cover. While it looked like the stroke came off the willow, the Bangladesh camp had confusion written on their face and henceforth, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto opted for the review. Soon after the big screen displayed, that the white rock came off the middle of the bat with the pad far away from the ball, therefore costing Bangladesh a review. As the ball traveled at a decent pace towards the fielder and had no chance of inside edge as well, the Twitterverse kept wondering the reason behind this bizarre review from Shanto and Co.
