Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz is set to captain the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies. Regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto will be unavailable due to an injury, while veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan remains absent from the squad.

‌The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled the squad for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been appointed as the captain, stepping in for regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is sidelined with a groin injury.

BCB said in a statement, “Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury.”  They further stated, “ Tawhid Hridoy, a constant feature in the Bangladesh middle-order in white ball cricket, has also been declared unavailable by the BCB’s Medical Team as he is struggling with groin issues.”

Additionally, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mustafizur Rahman will also be absent from the squad, with the former sidelined due to a finger injury while the latter is unavailable citing personal reasons. In a positive development for Bangladesh, Liton Das returns to the team after missing the ODI series against Afghanistan in November. Left-hander Afif Hossain Dhrubo has earned a recall to the ODI squad after a year-long absence; his last appearance was in December 2023. Meanwhile, Zakir Hasan, who was part of the squad in last month’s series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been left out. Fast bowler Nahid Rana, who impressed during his ODI debut against Afghanistan, has retained his place in the team.
