IPL 2024 | Twitter explodes as Anrich Nortje prevents Suryakumar Yadav's comeback dismissing him for duck

A failed comeback can be a humbling experience, reminding us of our limitations and the importance of accepting mistakes gracefully. This was exemplified by Mumbai Indians' star batter Suryakumar Yadav who debuted this season but regrettably departed without adding any runs to his tally.

‌Opting to bowl first on the rock-hard Wankhede pitch proved to be a regrettable decision for Delhi Capitals, as Mumbai Indians' openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma launched a ferocious assault, notching up a formidable 75/0 by the end of the powerplay. Delhi's hopes were momentarily buoyed when Axar Patel ended Rohit's quest for a half-century dismantling the 80-run opening partnership. Attention then turned to Suryakumar Yadav making his debut for Mumbai after missing the initial three games of the season. However, fate took an unexpected turn for Surya as Nortje executed his plans meticulously against the seasoned 33-year-old batsman.

Facing Nortje's precision, Surya was welcomed by a pinpoint in-shaping yorker on the third ball of the eighth over, barely managing to block it and maintain his balance. But the next delivery brought disappointment for Surya as the Proteas speedster delivered a full-pitched ball. Despite Surya's attempt to execute a lofted drive, his weight distribution was off resulting in an inside-half shot that spiralled into the air. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Delhi's substitute fielder Jake Fraser-McGurk, stationed at mid-on effortlessly secured the catch leaving Surya to trudge back to the pavilion without scoring.

The bustling Wankhede crowd watched in anticipation as Surya's debut innings ended abruptly, stirring discussions across the Twitterverse about his underwhelming debut this season.
