Joe Root performed brilliantly in the first Test match against New Zealand at Lord’s to help his side win the game. The right-handed batter scored a brilliant hundred to make sure that his team crossed the line in what was an absolutely thrilling game of Test cricket from day one. The former England captain made sure he batted through the second innings to make sure his team crossed the finish line.

Former Australian cricketer Mark Taylor praised Joe Root for his batting and backed the English batter to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record in Test cricket. "Root has a minimum five years left in him, so I think Tendulkar's record is very achievable," Mark Taylor told Sky Sports.

"Root is batting as well as I have ever seen him bat over the last 18 months to two years. "He is in the prime of his career, so there are 15,000 runs-plus for him if he stays healthy."

The English team won their first Test match under Ben Stokes captaincy to make sure they have the lead in the series. England will play the second Test match against New Zealand at Nottingham and will look to make the most of it.
