Losing the World Test Championship was the biggest disappointment in my tenure, opines Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri has been the India head coach till the T20 World Cup 2021. During his tenure, he played a key role in building a formidable red-ball squad and a pace battery effective on every surface in the world. The team won Test series in Australia twice and were also leading by 2-1 in England during his tenure. Also, the finished No. 1 in Test rankings for five years and reached the knockout of the ICC tournaments. 

The only thing he lacks in his tenure are ICC trophies. The team were repeatedly knocked out at the crucial stages. Reflecting on his tenure as head coach , Ravi Shastri said that losing the World Test Championship was the biggest disappointment. He further added that the team didn’t deserve to lose that fixture and should have drawn it at least. 

"Losing the World Test Championship final for me was the biggest disappointment in my tenure because we didn’t deserve to lose that game. We should have drawn it at least. Because of the kind of cricket we had played for five years, to be No. 1 for five years is no joke," Shastri said on the ‘Bold and Brave: Ravi Shastri Way’ show on Star Sports.

"As much as you want to take about the preparation, the quarantine, the conditions that existed there, New Zealand already being in England… we had no business to lose that game. So that was disappointing to say the least."

India had lost the WTC final against New Zealand by eight wickets in Southampton. Kyle Jamieson was instrumental for Blackcaps as he picked five wicket haul and played a key role in the victory.
