Ashes 2019 | As a bowler, I don't know what the plan is, says Pat Cummins on dismissing Steve Smith

While Steve Smith has been the talk of town, Pat Cummins, on the other hand, has been the unsung hero of this Australian side. Since ball one of this Ashes, the New South Welshman has been running in relentlessly and has tormented the English batsmen with his pace and consistency. However, by the looks of it, he himself apparently does not have a clue on how to get Smith out. 

"I'm so glad he is in my team so I don't have to get him out," Cummins said in a video posted by the ICC's official twitter handle. 

In almost every single innings he has batted, the only way Smith has gotten out is by throwing his wicket away and the English bowlers have honestly found it impossible to dismiss him. Even England's destroyer in chief Jofra Archer said in the press conference two days ago that Smith 'won't just get out' and praised him for his remarkable consistency. 

Cummins, when asked about how to dismiss Smith, sounded as clueless as the English bowlers. 

"I think you've got to find out which balls you're happy for him to hit for four and just concede that he's going to hit a lot of them (boundaries) and hope that he misses one of them. I think you've to have a plan and stick to it but I don't know what the plan is,"

The speedster then heaped further praise on Smith and called him the "Best since Bradman" while expressing his disbelief on the 30-year-old's ability to not get out even on tracks which offer plenty of assistance to the bowlers. 

"He is incredible. He literally is the best since Bradman. It's mind-boggling. The amount of balls that swing, nip off the wicket and seam and he just doesn't get out. It's incredible" said the 26-year-old pacer.

Cummins ended the series with an astonishing 29 wickets to his name, setting a new record for the most number of wickets taken in a series without taking a five-wicket haul.
