After suffering three crushing defeats in the first three one-dayers, the South African 'A' side claimed their first win of the tour thanks to Anrich Nortje's three-wicket haul. The quick removed the dangerous trio of Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube to hand the visitors a four-run win.

Brief scores: South Africa 'A' 137-1 off 25 overs (Hendricks 60* and Chahar 1/18) beat India 188/9 off 25 overs (Dhawan 52* and Nortje 3/36) by 4 runs (VJD Method)

After rain delayed proceedings, India 'A' resumed their chase on Thursday with Shikhar Dhawan and Prashant Chopra walking to the middle in hope of sealing a fourth consecutive win for the hosts. After a bright start which saw the duo strike several boundaries, Chopra was undone by the pace of Lutho Sipamla for a score of 26. Dhawan then brought up his 52nd List A fifty through some flamboyant strokeplay but was soon dismissed by left-armer Marco Jansen for 52.

Shivam Dube (31) and Shreyas Iyer (26) then steadied the ship for the hosts with a promising 51-run partnership but were soon sent packing by a rampant Anrich Nortje who removed the duo in quick succession to leave India 'A' reeling.

Post the dismissal of Iyer and Dube, the win for the visitors seemed like a mere formality, despite Rahul Chahar (17*) putting up a valiant fight. The trio of Nortje, Jansen and Sipamla ended with three wickets each to help South Africa 'A' notch up their first victory of the series.

The India 'A' side have already won the series 3-1, and South Africa 'A' led by Temba Bavuma will once again be playing for pride in the 5th ODI on Friday.

For all the hubbub around white-ball cricket, the stakes of a red-ball game remain unmatched for the result doesn't define the toil of one day or 40 overs but four days of sweat. Frustration only becomes natural thus when teammates fail to cooperate, as was evident in the Bengal-Punjab Ranji clash.
