Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah will miss out on the upcoming T20I and Test series against Bangladesh. The Indian team management has made this decision with a view to give Bumrah adequate time to recover fully from the stress fracture. Surprisingly, Bumrah is yet to play a Test match in India and this will remain for a while.
"His rehabilitation is going along expected lines. Stress fractures are complicated to deal with, but since it was spotted on time and Bumrah got adequate rest, there is nothing serious," sources told The New Indian Express.
"The Bangladesh Tests are still a month away and he will be fit by then. But there are important assignments next year. The idea is to make it smooth for Bumrah. When he is back, he should be at his absolute best,” they added.
West Indies will be touring India for the T20I and ODI series and Sri Lanka will be also coming to the Indian shores for T20I series in December and January. But with India touring New Zealand in February-March, Bumrah will not be considered for selection in these series. He is looking to make a comeback against Australia when India face them in an ODI series that starts on January 14.
This is more like an opportunity for fringe players like Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed to make an impact in Bumrah's absence. With World T20 scheduled to be held Down Under next year, the Indian team management will be keen on testing their bench strength as far as their pace attack is concerned. Exciting times lie ahead for India as far as the T20Is are concerned with more than one spot up for grabs due to the likes of Rishabh Pant having poor form and Hardik Pandya absent due to back surgery.
