Former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin, who was in Mumbai this Monday (October 14) to meet senior BCCI officials, believes electing Ganguly as BCCI's new President was a very good choice. Azharuddin was pretty happy with the positive environment and remarked that cricket is everyone's priority.

The now Hyderabad Cricket Association president Mohammed Azharuddin, who faced allegations of spot fixing from BCCI a couple of decades ago, was back in the company of senior officials of the governing body this week. He claimed that the experience this time around, unlike the previous ones, was a pleasant one as he enjoyed the company of his former teammates and BCCI officials.

“The atmosphere has been very good, a lot of healthy discussions took place. Well, everyone’s priority is cricket and nothing else,” Sportstar quoted him as saying.

Azharuddin expressed his joy on the appointment of former captain Sourav Ganguly, who made his Test debut under his captaincy, as the new BCCI president and claimed that he is a person with the right kind of attitude for the position.

“He has been the front-runner for the post. He is a very good choice, with the right kind of attitude,” he said.

“I think everyone should rally around him and restore the pride and prestige of the BCCI which, like many State associations, has suffered a bit in the recent past.

“I am sure Ganguly will run the BCCI the way it should be and not in a haphazard manner, which was the case till now. Hopefully, a new system will be in place under his tenure,” the 56-year-old added.

Having assumed control of the HCA, Azhar said he currently has a task at hand and nothing can stop him, that being all round development of cricket in the state.

“I am here as HCA chief thanks to the support of all the secretaries. I look forward to their continued support in giving critical inputs to ensure free and fair administration,” he said.

The HCA president, like the other state bodies, expected complete and timely financial support from the governing body to facilitate the development of infrastructure in the state which will in turn lead to the betterment of the sport.
