Ricky Ponting has stated that Ishant Sharma has got an outstanding work ethic in the Delhi Capitals camp ahead of their next match against Chennai Super Kings. The Delhi coach has also said that he had gone to Ishant to make him aware of his role as a player in the ongoing edition of the league.

Despite not being the most prolific of bowlers in IPL Ishant Sharma still has 60 wickets from 77 matches in the tournament and his experience was one of the prime reason why Delhi Capitals shelled 1.10 crores to get the veteran in the 12th season of the league. Things have started paying off instantly with the lanky fast bowler claiming two wickets in the first match itself.

Meanwhile, Ponting has spoken about Ishant and his work ethic and role in the Delhi side during this IPL. The former Aussie skipper heaped praise on the Delhi pacer for his experience and work ethic.

"I had a great chat with him last night after the game. Ishant's work ethic in DC has been absolutely outstanding. The first day of training, I went to him and told him what I expected of him as far as a player is concerned. He is an experienced guy playing a lot of international cricket," Ponting said before the game against CSK, reported Cricbuzz.

Ishant bowled three overs during the powerplay period against Mumbai in Delhi’s tournament opener and in his quota of four overs, he conceded 34 runs with an economy rate of 8.50. Ponting credited Ishant for the hard work that he had put in the last game.

"I think he is bowling as good as he has ever bowled in his career. Even at his pace, he is bowling as quick as he has ever bowled in his career. He did a great job for us last night bowling those three overs, in Powerplay and set the game up for us. When as a coach you see guys like that work that hard and get the result, it's really pleasing. A big pat on the back for him."
