Sunrisers Hyderabad youngster, Ricky Bhui, is desperate to repay the faith put in him by coach Tom Moody and team mentor VVS Laxman in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batsman was the leading run-scorer for Andhra in the 2018-19 season of the Ranji Trophy.

India youngster, Ricky Bhui, has been associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise since the 2014 season but only managed to make his IPL debut in the 2018 edition of the league. The Andhra Pradesh batsman has just played one match in five seasons for the Tom Moody’s side and is desperate to repay the faith put in him by the management staff and team mentor - VVS Laxman.

“In 2014 I came into the squad directly from the U-19 level and team management told me back then that I had plenty of potential that I would be able to fulfill in a few years’ time.

“(Team mentor) VVS Laxman sir and (head coach) Tom Moody have been really helpful and encouraging with me throughout the years and they have put a lot of trust in me. This season I hope I can be a part of the playing XI and help the team do well,” Bhui said in a recent interview Cricketnext.

Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has seen a number of Indian youngsters shine on the international level with the likes of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and others make the jump to the national team almost immediately. But Bhui, who scored a century on List A debut for Andhra Pradesh and followed it up with a half-century on his T20 debut as well, is confident that is better prepared now to make an impact in the league as compared to 2014.

“If I had gotten a chance to play in the IPL earlier in my career and I didn’t perform well, the story would have been very different. But if you’re fully prepared for it then you give yourself a better chance to succeed.

“A lot has changed for me in the past few years. I’ve played more domestic cricket and I have runs behind me; from my side I am now fully prepared to make a mark should the opportunity arise,” added Bhui, who was Andhra Pradesh’s leading run-scorer in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season.
