VIDEO | MS Dhoni correctly predicts Maxwell’s next shot, gets him bowled

Despite all that he has done for India, MS Dhoni has been doubted after almost every failed innings and consequently, he has to prove himself every time he steps onto the field. Yesterday was no different as after failing with the bat, he spoon-fed Kuldeep Yadav into bowling out Glenn Maxwell.

Though his partner in crime Yuzvendra Chahal has scalped the wicket of Glenn Maxell many a time with his skidding away ball, Yadav was yet to that. However, the left-arm wrist spinner finally got that achievement unlocked on Tuesday as Dhoni guided the youngster all the way till the ball dismantled the stumps.

With Australia chasing a very gettable target of 251 runs in 50 overs, none of the batsmen was really in any sort of urgency. And Maxwell, who had taken the visitors home in the second T20I, could have repeated that feat again, although he was struggling to get acquainted with the rigours of the pitch. He had survived 18 balls and India needed to get rid of him in the opportune window.

It happened in the 29th over when Yadav was bowling. Just before the wicket, Dhoni could be heard on the stump mic pacifying Yadav by shouting that “Yeh maarna ka kaushishkarrahahaindalte rah” (He is trying to hit, keep hitting at the same place). Yadav, like an obedient student, did exactly that.

The pressure of dot ball was building that the ball dropping on the uneven bounce saw Maxwell making the mistake of going for it. The ball didn’t bounce and snuck underneath the bat to hit the stumps. An elated Dhoni signalled at Yadav gesturing “Told you!”
