ICC Women’s World Cup 2021 to begin from January 30

The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced the outline schedule for the 12th edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup to be held in 2021. Hosts New Zealand will be joined by seven other teams from around the world to play 31 matches, including the semi-finals and finals, from January 30 to February 20.

Having already hosted three senior World Cup events - the men’s tournament in 1992 and 2015, the women’s in 2000 - New Zealand is all set for yet another showpiece event in women’s cricket. The governing body, NZC, has announced that the tournament will be up and running on January 30, 2021. 

A total of eight teams are set to participate in the global event. Being the host nation, New Zealand qualify automatically. The top four teams in the ICC Women’s Championship standings are granted direct qualification. Currently, that top four includes England, Australia, India and South Africa. 

The three other teams on the points table are required to go through a Qualifier event to enter the main tournament. They will be joined by Bangladesh, Ireland, and the winner of each regional qualifier in 2019 - Africa, Americas, Asia, East Asia Pacific and Europe.

The previous edition of the Women’s World Cup saw host England triumph over India in a close encounter at the Lord’s in 2017.
