VIDEO | Oshane Thomas survives hit-wicket appeal despite smashing wickets with his bat

Cricket has witnessed some uncanny dismissals in the past, which has left the fans and the fraternity bewildered. One such incident was noticed in the encounter between Bangladesh and West Indies, where Oshane Thomas survived a hit-wicket call despite disrupting the bails with the willow in hand.

West Indies were all set to cross the 350-run mark, which has also become a norm in contemporary cricket but Bangladesh did well to pull things back in the death overs. Oshane Thomas and Darren Bravo were trying to churn out as many runs as possible from the final few overs and going hard after every ball.

On the fifth delivery of the 49th over, Thomas swung hard at a delivery from Mustafizur Rahman and while bringing his bat down, he hit the stumps. Bangladesh appealed for a hit wicket and the umpires did go upstairs but the soft decision was not out. The on-field umpire’s decision sustained as Thomas had completed the swing of his bat and the ball had already gone through to the wicket-keeper when the bails were disrupted. The on-field umpires referred the call to the third umpire, who said that since the batsman had already completed his shot before the bails came off, the batsman was safe.

The incident caught many eyeballs as this was a very rare scenario in cricket and as per the laws Thomas was ruled not out. West Indies manage to post a challenging total of 321 in their quota of 50 overs.
