Sarfraz Ahmed has admitted that the loss to India hurt Pakistan but wants his team to fight back to remain in contention for a semi final spot. Pakistan succumbed to an 89 run loss (DLS) against rivals India as Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant century at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground on Sunday.
The Indian cricket team once again proved their dominance over arch rivals Pakistan as they ran out comfortable winners in the much awaited clash in Manchester on Sunday. While rain interrupted play on multiple occasions during the high octane encounter, Virat Kohli & Co. ultimately emerged victorious by a margin of 89 runs (DLS method).
Pakistan were given a revised target of 302 in 40 overs due to rain but finally ended up on 212-6. Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed admitted that his side were left devastated with the loss against India but backed his squad to bounce back in the remainder of the tournament.
"The defeat against India hurts. Naturally when you lose like this, your morale goes down but we have to lift ourselves because we are still not out of the World Cup and have to win all our four remaining matches," Ahmed said at the post-match conference.
The defeat to India was Pakistan's seventh consecutive loss to their neighbours at the World Cup. The 1992 World Cup-winners remaining matches are against South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
"We know the task is tough and we have to win all our matches so we have no margin of error," added the Pakistan captain.
