Lasith Malinga to hang up boots after first ODI against Bangladesh

Lasith Malinga has terrified batsmen all across the globe for the last 15 years now ever since he made his ODI debut back in 2004. The former Sri Lanka captain recently revealed his decision to quit white-ball cricket and will do so after playing in the opening ODI against Bangladesh in three-match series on July 26.

“Malinga told to me that he is going to retire after the first ODI. Although I do not know what he has spoken to board and the selectors,” said Karunaratne at a press conference in Colombo on Monday ahead of the series. 

While the selectors had pressed Malinga to take part in the entire series, the Mumbai Indians pacer was adamant that he will play in the one solitary game as he had decided during the recently concluded World Cup in England. 

With 335 wickets from 219 One-Dayers,Malinga ends his career as Sri Lanka’s third highest wicket-taker in the ODI format behind the likes of legends such as Muttiah Muralidaran (523) and Chaminda Vaas (399).
