Looking forward to playing in the limited-overs team, says Mayank Agarwal

The Indian cricket team registered a historic 2-1 win in the four-match Test series against Australia back in December. While the bowlers starred in India’s first-ever series win on Australian soil, there were a few batsmen who also impressed down under. While Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli were the standout performers with the bat, debutant Mayank Agarwal also made the most of the opportunities that came his way.

Agarwal, who was the highest run-getter in the 2018 Ranji Trophy season, declared that he is hopeful of making an appearance in the Indian limited-overs team as soon as possible.

"Obviously the goal is to play for the country in all three formats. I'm looking forward to playing limited overs cricket for the country whenever the opportunity presents itself. I think I have the game (to succeed across formats).

"The basic remains the same, whether you're playing Test cricket, one-day cricket or Twenty20 cricket. You only have to change your game and plan according to the format you are playing and the situation you are put in," Agarwal told Reuters.

Agarwal, who scored 195 runs from two games against Australia, added that he cherished the experience of batting with Man of the Series Cheteshwar Pujara, who recorded a mammoth 521 runs in seven innings, which included three centuries.

"It was a terrific experience. He's very, very calm and composed when he's batting," he said of India's top order bulwark.

"It was absolute pleasure to watch him from the non-striker's end grinding the bowlers and defending and playing to his strength. There's a lot to learn from him," Agarwal added.
