Unless government allows, we will not play Pakistan, says Rajeev Shukla

BCCI chief Rajeev Shukla has declared that it will wait patiently for government approval before engaging in any cricketing relations with Pakistan after the recent Pulwama attack in Kashmir. Shukla added that the outrage is justified and asked Pakistan to secretly stop supporting terrorism.

India last met Pakistan in the last year’s Asia Cup tournament which also involved other sub-continent teams like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. However, cricketing relations of the two nations have been in bad conditions ever since 2012 after the socio-political tension grew too much to handle.

The recent Pulwama attacks which claimed the life around 40 CRPF personnel has only added to the tension between the two nations. There is a nation-wide outrage over the loss of life at the border and BCCI chief Rajeev Shukla has revealed that there will be no ties with Pakistan until the government approves any decision.

"Our position is very clear. Unless the government gives us the nod, we are not going to play with Pakistan. Sports should be above all these things but if somebody is sponsoring terrorism, obviously it will affect sports also," Shukla told ANI reporters.

When asked if India will play against Pakistan in the forthcoming World Cup, Shukla shunned the question and said, "That we can't tell you know right now. World cup is far away. We will see what happens."

Following the attack, people from across the country expressed anger and demanded action against Pakistan. Shukla, too, shared the same sentiment and said that the outrage is justified while asking Pakistan to stop supporting terrorism.

"This is the outrage of the people which is reflecting in these ways. Obviously, people will react like this. Pakistan should be vary of these things. They should not support terrorism. We have been saying this from day one. When our government was there, we gave tons of documents about their involvement. They should realise this," Shukla said.
