After India were outplayed in the first ODI of the series against West Indies, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja said that the first priority of a team is to go on the field with five proper bowling options. India went in with 4 proper bowling options and two part-timers.
“Your first priority is to have 5 proper bowling options. Bowlers have limitations of 10 overs and you must go into a game with 5 bowlers to complete 50 overs. You are having the two best ODI batsman in the lineup (Kohli and Rohit) and still you are going with an extra batting option down the order, this makes no sense. Bowling is your weak link, you should not make it more weak by going with 4 regular bowling options,” Jadeja said in Cricbuzz Live.
With a slow and dry pitch of Chennai, it was not a surprise to see the ball gripping off the surface and providing help for the spinners. But Jadeja felt that Kohli did not use his bowling options properly.
“In the middle, the score looked defendable, had Kohli used his options properly.”
Mohammad Shami bowled a four-over spell in the first half of the West Indies innings. Blaming the bowling change to be one of the reasons for the loss the former India batsman said, “Knowling Shami is good at the start of an Innings, why would you keep Shami for the end overs?”
