Pink-ball Tests can’t replace traditional red-ball games, opines Sourav Ganguly

In response to Cricket Australia’s (CA) intentions of hosting two pink-ball Test matches against India, Sourav Ganguly has said that the D/N Tests can’t replace the traditional red ball games. Earlier, the BCCI President had shared his intentions of having one Pink ball Test match per series.

Earlier, CA chairman Earl Eddings had revealed his hopes of hosting two pink-ball Test matches when India tour Australia in the year 2021. Eddings also spoke highly of Sourav Ganguly whose efforts in making the first ever D/N for India happen. It was Ganguly who managed to convince Bangladesh for the pink-ball Test just within a week of taking over as chairman of the board.

CA’s Chief Executive Kevin Roberts had also spoken about having more than one Day/Night Tests during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2021.

However, a supporter of the D/N setup, Ganguly does not believe in playing more than one such game in a single series. While Ganguly said he is yet to hear "anything officially" from Cricket Australia, he has made his decisions clear.

"Two out of four will be a bit too much...it can’t replace traditional Test matches. But we can have one Pink Test every series,” Ganguly said, as quoted by PTI.
