The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to pocket a cool 20 crores from gate receipts during the playoffs in the 12th edition of Indian Premier League. Chennai will host the first qualifier, while Vizag has been picked to will host the Eliminator and second qualifier.

The ongoing IPL has been a tremendous success with Hotstar claiming to receive its highest ever live users during this year’s league. However, it’s not just Hotstar that is in the green this year as the BCCI is also in line to make 20 crores from the playoffs. This will mean that the board will make an additional 2 crores from gate receipts which will eventually be distributed across the eight franchises

Since, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) failed to secure permission to open stands I, J and K (which can occupy 12,000 spectators) the BCCI has planned to shift the final from Chennai to Hyderabad, which was scheduled to host the Eliminator and the second qualifier.

CoA chief Vinod Rai had explained the change of venues by telling IANS, "We had to shift the matches from Chennai to Hyderabad after TNCA intimated us that they have not procured the requisite permission to open the three stands I, J and K. Since the gate sales of the knock-out matches is BCCI's prerogative, we had to take a call.”
