Reports | Sourav Ganguly willing to resign from CAC

Sourav Ganguly, who is the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), had signed up as the advisor of the Delhi Capitals after acquiring all the due permissions before the start of this season of the Indian Premier League. However, three cricket fans had objected against this, citing a conflict of interest in Ganguly’s dual role. 

Nevertheless, as per the latest developments, Ganguly is willing to give up his role as a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), although he is confident that there is no conflict of interest whatsoever. The CAC is a three-member panel, which was formed in 2015, to advise the BCCI on pertinent issues in Indian cricket. The other two members of the committee are VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar who also act as advisors of IPL franchises Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians respectively.

“Sourav last attended a CAC meeting during the appointment of Ravi Shastri as coach after the Champions Trophy in 2017. In fact, the committee has not even met in recent times and he is clear that if required, he will step down from the role to avoid any questions of conflict. Even though his stance remains unchanged that he is not conflicted in any way, he will meet the ombudsman and discuss the same,” said a source close to Sourav Ganguly, reported IANS.

Post the complaint, Ganguly had communicated to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Ombudsman Justice (Retd) DK Jain, dismissing all allegations against him. However, following the principles of natural justice, Jain has asked the former India captain to appear for a hearing in person on April 20, the same day when his team DC plays against Kings XI Punjab in Delhi. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri had suggested to the Ombudsman to allow Ganguly to continue in his role if he is willing to provide full disclosure, given his ability to massively continue contributing to Indian cricket.
