VIDEO | Shikhar Dhawan denied review after wasting too much time

The Indian ODI team has made a name for itself as far as DRS is concerned thanks to the presence of MS Dhoni behind the stumps. However, Shikhar Dhawan seems to have been immune to Dhoni's skills as he wasted the 15 seconds allotted for DRS decisions in his discussion with partner KL Rahul.

After bowling the English out for 332 in the first innings, India had to get off to a good start in order to regain some pride in the dead rubber at The Oval. Dhawan and Rahul had anything but that as the former lasted just six balls at the crease as he was trapped in front of his stumps by Stuart Broad in the second over. On first viewing, it looked like the Indian had been caught plumb in front of his stumps and umpire Joel Wilson did not hesitate while raising his finger.

Dhawan stood at the crease for a couple seconds before moving across the pitch to have a word with Rahul about taking the review. India had already wasted two reviews while fielding yesterday and the duo took their time in deciding whether they should opt for one so early in the innings. After taking a substantial amount of time, they finally decided to go upstairs and Dhawan signalled for it but by then he had already wasted 15 seconds and the umpire refused to accept his request.

Luckily for Dhawan, ball-tracking suggested that the decision would have stood as 'umpire's call' and although Dhawan would have returned to the dressing room, India would not have lost their review.
