While the management’s decision to send in a makeshift bowling attack from the last ODI has still been unclear, India would go into the 2nd ODI with the same 12-man squad that was there in Guwahati. While India’s batting display remained solid as ever, with India chasing a target of 323 in 42 overs, it was Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav’s bowling performance that would have made the management sweat ahead of the second ODI in Vizag.
Bowling first, India’s pace battery was tormented by the Windies batsman with Shami, Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed conceding over 200 runs taking only three wickets combined in the process. India had opted to play Ravindra Jadeja in the opener keeping an eye on his Asia Cup display, but the finger spinner conceded a whopping 66 runs despite having two wickets to his name. Hence, a chance for Kuldeep Yadav might just be lurking around the corner.
On the batting front, apart from Shikhar Dhawan’s early dismissal, India had nothing to worry about as Kohli and Sharma forged a partnership of 246 runs to take the match away from Windies. Rayudu could get the last responsibility of finishing off the game while the debutant Rishabh Pant didn’t even get to bat.
India squad : Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Khaleel Ahmed
