BCCI to impose two year ban on players involving in age fraud

Board of Control for Cricket in India has come out with a zero tolerance policy towards any kind of age-related fraud and has stated that it will impose a two-year ban on players who are proven guilty. Earlier in the year 2015, Rahul Dravid had equated age fraud to match-fixing and corruption.

Many sports have faced age fraud related issues and so has cricket. After the recent Gaurav Mukhi debacle that saw the AIFF banning him for six months, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come out with a policy to stop age-related fraud in cricket. The board has said that the punishment for such a fraud would be two years ban from any BCCI tournaments. 

"The BCCI has a zero-tolerance policy for age fraud in sport and has taken strict action against cricketers found guilty of manipulating their date of birth certificates while registering for BCCI tournaments.

"As conveyed to state associations at the start of the season, BCCI wishes to reiterate that from the 2018-19 season, any cricketer who is found guilty of tampering his/her date of birth will be disqualified and barred from participating in any BCCI tournament for a period of 2 years i.e. 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons," BCCI announced is a press release.

Back in 2015 while delivering the MAK Pataudi Lecture former National Cricket team captain Rahul Dravid had decried age frauds as dangerous and toxic.
