VIDEO | Imran Tahir celebrates on no-ball; leaves teammates embarrassed

From a loud cry of success or just a fist pump, celebrations have evolved to great lengths in modern day sports with every player coming up with their unique jollifications. Imran Tahir was, however, was left red faced for his extravagant celebration as he didn’t realize it was on a no-ball.

South Africa were playing the warm-up match against Prime Ministers XI as their first match of the Australian tour. Batting first, the Proteas had given a meek target of 174 runs after they were all dismissed by the 42nd over. It was there for the hosts to win it easily before Lungi Ndidi struck as early as in the third over to send Max Bryant back to the pavilion.

However, the incident took place in the fifth over as wicket-keeper batsman Josh Philippe and Jack Edwards were looking to steady the ship after the early turbulence. Kagiso Rabada’s short of length ball was swung towards long leg where Imran Tahir was standing. The spinner did actually take a fine catch that required him to come forward and collect the ball cleanly with one knee skidding. However, unfortunately, his fantastic effort would go to waste as the umpire had called it a no-ball.

But that is where the real fun began. Of course, the umpire wasn’t audible enough for Tahir, who was fielding at the ropes, and the fielder took the catch, turned back with swagger towards the crowd standing behind him with wicket keeper Quinton de Kock waiting all this while for him to throw the ball. That wasn’t it, Tahir followed it by pointing to the name at the back of shirt before throwing the ball in no man’s land. The batsmen had taken two quick runs by then.
