Sometimes a captain must have to take steps to ensure that he stays on the pitch long enough to ensure to see his team put up a competitive total on the scoreboard in the shortest format. That’s exactly what Virat Kohli did when he played dumb after nicking a Bumrah delivery tonight.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit have endured a difficult tournament so far having won just two of their seven games. The loss of star batsman AB De Villiers was an added blow for the home team ahead of their match against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians. After losing their opening duo early off into the game, skipper Virat Kohli and Brendon McCullum had to steady the ship for the RCB outfit in Bangalore.

But, Kohli was lucky to stay on the pitch after an incident that occurred in the 14th over of RCB’s innings. Jasprit Bumrah, Kohli’s trusted warrior in the Indian team, was up against his national captain as he bowled a brilliant delivery just a bit wide off the off stump which was enough to tempt Kohli to take a swing at it. The Indian skipper misjudged the pace on the delivery as the ball appeared to nick the bat and travel to keeper Ishan Kishan, who caught it.

Both the bowler and wicket-keeper appealed for a caught-behind, but the umpire didn’t seem to be convinced by their shout. Kohli. surprisingly, acted as though nothing had happened and put on a poker face for the bowler’s appeal. But replays revealed that Kohli indeed nicked the ball as Ultra-Edge also threw up a big spike in the review. What a lucky escape for the RCB skipper!
