IPL experience helped me make my T20I comeback, explains Umesh Yadav

Despite making his debut as a member of the national team in T20I in 2012, Umesh Yadav was not considered an explicit talent to be recruited frequently in the shortest format of the game. His second appearance in the T20I has been after almost six years against Ireland. Having played 37 Tests and 71 ODIs for India, Umesh was incapable of exerting any consequential influence in the T20I format. However, this IPL season, Umesh had shown an exceptional performance, the experiences of which he tried to use in his comeback match.

“This is my comeback after five years and I'm very happy with my performance. I enjoyed my game, and kept trying to do whatever I did in the IPL. In the future too I'll just keep doing whatever I'm currently doing" Umesh said.

Umesh secured 20 wickets in 14 games at an average of 20.9 and was the lead bowler for his side Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 IPL. His improvement as a bowler in the T20 format has been quite apparent even as he played against Ireland, where he snatched two significant wickets of Paul Sterling and William Porterfield, giving up only 19 runs.

“Whatever we learnt from the IPL, we're tying to repeat the same thing, and bowl with same plans - weather plan A or plan B. You can't always go with just one plan. On a flat track, if a plan is not working then definitely we'll change the plan. We're going with an aggressive mindset, and want to play good cricket and focus on that. Everyone knows their jobs,” Umesh said.
