The Indian colts started off their England series on a winning note as they beat the English Cricket Board XI side by 126 runs in the warm-up game. Batting first, Shaw and company posted a mammoth total of 328 and wrapped up the hosts by 203. Shaw scored a superb 71 out of 60 balls, which set the grounds for the win.

The team looked never to have lost their momentum following their U-19 World Cup stint and Shaw has revealed that the coach has asked them to concentrate more on the strategies that they could implement in their game rather than on their skill and form.

“There aren't too many technical conversations with Rahul Sir, but he does talk a lot about working on the mental side of the game,” said Shaw, quoted ESPNCricinfo.

“Rahul Sir has told us to play our natural game on this tour. It is important we understand the conditions well also and play close to the body if we want to do well over here,” he further added.

The win at Headingley was a veiled warning to the England Lions and West Indies A of what was to be expected from the India A squad in the series. The win should come as a huge boost for the youngsters who are focussed on improving their game to adapt to the challenging conditions away from home.

“The focus right now is to continue the good work in the upcoming ODIs that we will be playing on this tour,” Shaw stated.
