WATCH | Brisbane Heat batsman Alex Ross given run-out for obstructing the field

In what turned out to be a belter of a game at the Gabba on Wednesday night, Hobart Hurricanes batsman D’Arcy Short belted his way to 122 from 69 balls, the highest score in BBL history, to bring the Tasmanians to their total of 4/179. An incredible fightback from the Hobart Hurricanes saw the visitors take victory from the rampaging Brisbane Heat in the final over.

However, one bizarre incident came to light during the match, which seen Heat batsman Alex Ross sent back to the sheds in controversial circumstances. The Heat batsman was given out after he dived in front of the ball on its way to the stumps at the keeper’s end.

The decision went to the third umpire and Ross was sent on his way for obstructing the ball, to everyone’s surprise. Former Australian captain and wicket-keeper, Adam Gilchrist, who was part of the commentary team, was also taken aback by the decision as he said, “I’m stunned. I cannot believe that” Gilchrist said. “I don’t reckon he was obstructing the field at all.”
