IPL 2018 | The win against CSK will give us confidence going forward, says Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has backed Mumbai Indians to do well in the remainder of the 2018 Indian Premier League after their impressive win against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings last night. The Indian limited-overs vice-captain has also added that Kieron Pollard might return to the team later this season.

Mumbai Indians player Rohit Sharma has been criticised for his captaincy for the majority of this year’s Indian Premier League. Sharma has won two games from five matches since the start of the season and has looked to make some changes to the side in order to get better results in the rest of their matches.

Their experiment on the pitch bore fruit in last night’s game as they managed to beat Chennai Super Kings at the MCA stadium in Pune with two balls to spare and Sharma was quick to add that the win would indeed provide a much-needed boost to his lads to do better in the remainder of their matches.

"Today we batted well, bowled well, fielded well. If I look back at it, except the Sunrisers game where we batted poorly, the rest of the games we put on 190-plus. This game will give us confidence going forward.

"We Wanted this win desperately. In desperation, we didn't want to make decisions that won't go well. Wanted to stay calm. We've played good cricket. But that finishing touch wasn't happening," the Mumbai skipper said in the post-match conference.

West Indian powerhouse Kieron Pollard, who has looked out of touch in this year’s edition of the tournament, was dropped in favor of players like Ben Cutting and South African all-rounder JP Duminy who took his place in the squad. But Sharma insisted that match-winner Pollard still had an important role to play in the rest of this year’s tournament.

"Tough leaving out Pollard. He's done so many good things for us.Going forward, don't want to dismiss him completely. He'll still be our match winner," Sharma added.
