VIDEO | Manish Pandey saves Shakib Al Hasan’s wicket with extraordinary presence of mind

After his muck up in the CT Final, Jasprit Bumrah should expect his name to be called whenever a wicket is taken on a no ball. However, in a match between SRH and KXIP, it was Manish Pandey who confidently told the umpire that Barinder Sran had over-stepped after Shakib had been caught at third man.

Table toppers Kings XI Punjab got off to a flyer against Sunrisers Hyderabad as they sent both Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan back with the scoreboard reading 16/2 in three overs. It could have been worse as R Ashwin dropped a simple catch, which would have forced Manish Pandey to rejoin his teammates in the dugout.

However, after Ankit Rajpoot got rid of Saha on the penultimate ball of the fifth over, Pandey was handed another life as he was dropped by Andrew Tye on the very next ball. Two balls later, it was Pandey’s turn to act as the saviour and it was his quick thinking that saved Shakib Al Hasan from a premature dismissal.

On the second ball of the last powerplay over, Sran dropped one short and all Shakib could get on the ball was a thick top edge that went flying to the third man. This time the SRH man managed to catch the ball cleanly and the Bangladesh star started to turn around to walk back. However, Pandey who was halfway down the pitch, immediately turned to the umpire and told him that Sran had over-stepped.

The umpire decided to go upstairs and the Indian proved to be right as Sran had overstepped his line. Much to the crowd’s delight, not only was Shakib given not out but Chris Gayle them a bit of a show as well.
