IPL 2018 | Skipper R Ashwin knows a lot about the game, claims David Miller

Kings XI Punjab, co- owned by the enthusiastic Preity Zinta, have always been known to be a happy-go-lucky kind of team much in the image of the actress herself. Having reached the finals in 2014 under the leadership of Australian George Bailey, only to lose the match to Kolkata Knight Riders, the Punjab-based franchise have failed to repeat the feat ever since.

But SA batsman David Miller, who starred in the 2014 season opined that present skipper R Ashwin had it in him to repeat the heroics of Bailey this season. Miller said that despite Ashwin being the only bowler to captain the team in this season’s tournament, it won’t make much of a difference to the team’s dynamics.

“I have played against him a couple of times. From what I have gathered, he is very calculated. He thinks about the game very well; every decision he makes, there is a reason why he does that. So far, it is pretty relaxed, pretty low-key, letting guys do what they need to do. That is the most important thing. So far it has been good, and we have an exciting five weeks ahead. He knows a lot about the game and he thinks a lot about the game,” Miller was quoted as saying by Wisden India.

Miller lauded the KXIP management who have managed to put together a strong and balanced team ahead of the 2018 season of the Indian Premier League. KXIP have brought in players like R Ashwin, Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh and the hero of the first match - KL Rahul.

“I thought it was an outstanding game. We played really, really well. This year’s auction has given Kings XI the balance between local players and overseas players. We have a really good squad and we have done really well so far. As we saw in Mohali, some of the local batters have done really well. That is a good sign and it is just the first game, so hopefully, we can keep the momentum going. We will try and build some amount of confidence and combination through the first few games,” Miller added.
