The current all-conquering Indian side is well known for their superior athleticism and sharp fielding. Former cricketing legend, Sunil Gavaskar, has heavily praised the ruthless nature of the young lot, who are quick on their feet to make the most of even the slightest of carelessness by the opposition. And Australia got a taste of it on Saturday before their lack lustrous innings was cut short by rain.

With the top and middle order already collapsed and only 113 runs on board, Dan Christian and Andrew Tye were making a last-ditch attempt to put on a respectable target. India’s plan had worked successfully with a variation of bowling completely outplaying the Australian batsmen, but Kohli is not someone to get complacent even in such comfortable situations.

Christian had hit Bumrah for a shot at long-on that guaranteed an easy double, but Kohli sensed the tiredness in the batsmen and took his chance from 66 meters. The ball bounced just right to hit the stumps, which even MS Dhoni failed to read. With commentators deducing it as another masterpiece of Dhoni, the big screen clarified that it was a direct hit by Kohli.

Australia couldn’t bat much longer with their score at 118 in 18.4 overs, as an hour-long rain led to the cancellation of overs for both the sides. India were given a revised target of 48 from six overs that Kohli and Shikhara Dhawan managed easily with two balls to go.
